Metabolic Care Q & A

What is metabolic care?

Metabolic care is medical care for people with metabolic syndrome. The traits of metabolic syndrome include high cholesterol, high blood sugar (diabetes or pre-diabetes), and high blood pressure.

Many who struggle with their weight have all of these issues, and this combination of issues increases the risk of significant health threats, including heart disease and stroke.

When might I need metabolic care?

If you're diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, you need metabolic care. Dr. Cain may diagnose you with metabolic syndrome if you have three or more of the following characteristics.

  • A waist circumference of 35 inches or more in women, or 40 inches or more in men
  • High triglyceride level - 150 mg/dL or higher in blood tests
  • Low HDL (good) cholesterol - under 50 mg/dL in women or 40 mg/dL in men
  • High blood pressure - 130/85 mmHg or higher
  • High blood sugar - 100 mg/dL or higher fasting blood sugar in blood tests

Dr. Cain can diagnose metabolic syndrome with a physical exam and lab tests in the Excelsis Health office.

What does metabolic care include?

At Excelsis Health, Dr. Cain provides comprehensive metabolic care as part of your weight loss plan.

Correcting nutritional deficiencies

Many people with metabolic syndrome have excess weight in addition to nutritional deficiencies and imbalances. Dr. Cain can identify these imbalances and help you make the right changes in your diet to correct the problems. One option is a nutritionally complete meal replacement plan.

You may also need pharmaceutical-grade supplements, which you can order online for direct home delivery.

Medication management

Many people who need metabolic care already take medication to manage one or more of their conditions. But, in some cases, the medication or dosage is making the problem worse or causing serious side effects.

Dr. Cain can identify medication issues and prescribe the right type and amount of medication to help you get healthy.

Lifestyle management

Lifestyle management is an integral part of metabolic care. Dr. Cain can help with nutritional management, meal planning, exercise routine, sleep habits, and stress and by recommending strategies to break bad habits and establish new healthy habits to replace them.
